Set up your tablet: settings, apps and getting started
A new tablet offers a very wide range of functions, which can be confusing at first. This practical tip explains how to set up your tablet optimally and which important settings and apps you should not forget.
Get started with setting up your tablet
No matter what brand your tablet is, the first steps are similar for each device:
- Before using your tablet for the first time, you should fully charge the battery. This process protects the device and ensures that you have enough battery for the next steps.
- After you have switched on the tablet, settings such as date, time and language are required. If you have an Android tablet, you should also sign in with your Google account to download apps.
- As soon as the tablet starts up, switch on the WLAN connection. To do this, go to the settings and tap on the sub-item "WLAN". There you select the radio network and enter the security key.
- In the settings menu you can also set which background image you would like to use using the "Display" or "Display" sub-items. This makes it easy to personalize your tablet.
- You can also use the included cable to connect your tablet to the computer. For Apple devices, you need to install iTunes on your computer in order to sync it. Android tablets can be controlled directly via the Explorer.
Set up tablet- the most important settings
- Once you're connected to the internet, you should first check to see if new updates are available for your device. For Android devices, go to "Settings"> "About device"> "Update". If you have an iPad, go to the Settings menu and select "General"> "Software update".
- You should also switch off the location services in the settings if you do not need them. The services usually use a lot of battery and are hardly used.
- With Android tablets in particular, you should delete any apps that you do not need because they use up free space.
- In the settings you will also find the sub-item "Security". There you can set a password or a swipe pattern to protect your tablet from unauthorized access.

- If you work with Dropbox, you can also download an app from this service so that you can easily transfer data.
- The Spotify app is also recommended for music lovers.
- The best way to read PDF files is to use Acrobat Reader.
