The selection of tablets is large. Choosing a model and operating system is not easy. This practical tip tells you what to look for when buying a tablet.
Android, iOS or Windows? - Which operating system should you choose?
First of all, of course, the question arises which operating system you should choose.
- The currently most popular operating system for smartphones and tablets is Android. The great thing here is the price: Android tablets are usually cheaper than tablets with iOS or Windows. On the other hand, there is a larger manufacturer selection. iOS tablets are only sold by Apple. Android tablets are available from various companies.
- One argument for iOS is that this system is beginner-friendly. You also have access to the AppStore, iTunes and iCloud with your iOS tablet (iPad). Since iOS tablets are only available from Apple, the software is perfectly matched to the hardware.
- Finally, there are the Windows tablets. These tablets are basically like a normal Windows PC. So you can easily run your PC programs on your tablet. Windows tablets are not only available from Microsoft, but also from other companies at reasonable prices.
CPU, RAM, GPU & internal memory
Of course, the device specifications are very important when buying a tablet.
- CPU: Your tablet should have at least two processor cores and a clock rate of one gigahertz so that it can be operated smoothly.
- RAM: In addition to a good CPU, good RAM is also important. This should be at least one or two gigabytes in size so that apps that you run simultaneously can still run quickly.
- The internal memory: the larger the memory, the better. If you buy a tablet with a large internal memory, you can install more apps, take photos, save files, etc. The internal memory should be at least 10 GB and should be expandable with an external memory card.
- GPU: The graphics card is usually not so important on a tablet. In addition, manufacturers usually give hardly any information about this. But the same applies here as with the processor: the more cores and the higher the clock rate, the better. The graphics card should have a clock speed of at least 400 MHz.
Tablet purchase: the screen
There are two important characteristics of the tablet screen: the size and the resolution.
- Depending on what you want to do with the tablet and where you want to use it, you have to choose between different sizes. Small tablets are good for on the go, large tablets are good for at home.
- However, the resolution is very important for the screen. The larger the tablet, the better the resolution should be so that content doesn't look blurry. The resolution should be at least 1280 x 720 pixels. However, a full HD tablet with 1920 x 1080 pixels is even better.
Additional features of a tablet
So that your future tablet is really perfect, you should also pay a little attention to the additional features.
- If you want to surf the Internet on the go without relying on a WiFi connection, a tablet with LTE is recommended. You can also use this tablet to make calls.
- If you also want to take photos with your tablet, you should buy a device that has a front camera and a main camera on the back. The resolution should not be less than 12 megapixels.
