Retrofit tabs in Windows Explorer
While tabs are standard in browsers, they have not yet found their way into Windows Explorer. However, various tools enable this functionality to be retrofitted.
Retrofit tabs with "Clover"
For example, anyone who is used to Google Chrome as a browser will conveniently use the freeware Clover, which is very similar to the browser in terms of operation and design and is therefore intuitive to use. The program can be downloaded here for free.
Manage bookmarks in Windows Explorer
The tabs are used and controlled in the same way as with Google Chrome. Favorites can also be pinned in the bookmarks bar.
- To do this, right-click on a tab and select "Create bookmarks for this page".
- Change the "folder" if necessary and confirm with "Done".
- In the context menu of the bar itself, you can even add folders and thus arrange several bookmarks in a structured way.
Other tab functions from Clover
- Click on the tool icon at the top to access the "Settings". As with the browser, you can optionally "Open recently opened pages again" and "Warn before closing (close tabs)".
- Further options such as »double-clicking on tab: close tab« are configurable and indicate useful functions.
- If you like to copy and drop things between two windows using drag and drop, this is also done quickly: Drag one of the tabs from the bar to any location on the screen to open another full Explorer window. The windows can be reunited in the same way.
