Show tabs in rows - how it works
If you have a lot of tabs open, you can display them in different lines to get an overview again. In this practical tip, we will show you how this works in Firefox, Google Chrome and Internet Explorer.
Firefox: Show tabs in rows
- Open Firefox and download the "Tab Mix Plus" add-on.
- Confirm the installation, have the add-on installed and restart the browser.
- Click on the "Firefox" button in the top left and select the "Settings" there. Here you will find the button labeled "Tab Mix Plus - Session Manager" in the top right corner.
- A new window opens in which you select the "Surface" tab.
- Below you will find the item "If there are too many tabs", where you select the option "Show on multiple lines" (see picture). Below this you can also specify the maximum number of lines.
- Then close the two windows by clicking the "OK" button.
Google Chrome: Overview of the tabs
Under Google Chrome, tabs cannot be displayed directly in a row. You can, however, display the tabs with an extension in an orderly overview.
- Download the "TooManyTabs for Chrome" add-on by clicking on the button labeled "Free" in the top right corner. Confirm the query by clicking on "Add".
- A new button appears at the top right next to the address line. You can use this to not only read the number of tabs, but also get a short preview of all tabs (see picture).
- Clicking on the tab in the preview takes you directly to it.
Internet Explorer: move the table bar
Unfortunately, you cannot create multiple lines for tabs in Internet Explorer. However, you can move the tab line down so that it is no longer next to but below the address line. This creates a much better overview when several tabs are open.
- Open Internet Explorer and right click on a tab.
- In the context menu at the bottom, select the item "Show tabs in a separate line" (see picture).
