A new tamper protection has been available since the new Windows 10 version. In this practical tip, we will tell you what this protective function does and how you activate it.
Windows 10: What does Tamper Protection tamper protection do?
Microsoft has announced a new security feature for Windows. Tamper Protection is now available in the in-house antivirus software Microsoft Defender.
- Manipulation protection is designed to prevent Windows security measures from being manipulated or even switched off by malware.
- This plays an important role when the Windows Defender attacks, thereby making it possible for the hacker to inject malware onto the user's PC.
- The security function ensures that programs are no longer able to deactivate virus or real-time protection.
- Tamper Protection blocks all access to Microsoft Defender so that security settings cannot be changed. It should also no longer be possible to delete security updates.
- Nevertheless, Microsoft emphasizes that the protection was primarily designed for companies. Then the function can not only prevent malware, but also users from changing Defender settings.
How do I activate the feature?
In the next few weeks, Microsoft will gradually activate the feature for all users. However, if you want to be on the safe side, you can activate the function manually now.
- To do this, go to "Update and security" in the Windows settings
- Then click the "Windows Security" entry on the left
- Now open the entry "Virus & threat protection".
- Under "Virus & threat protection settings" go to "Manage settings".
- You can now activate tamper protection here.
- However, the feature is only available from Windows 10 version 1903.
