Flashlight in hand luggage: you need to know this for the flight
If you want to take a flashlight with you on an airplane, there are a few things you need to consider when transporting it in your hand luggage. We'll tell you how best to get through security.
You have to consider this with a flashlight in your hand luggage
For safety reasons, you must always carry flashlights in your hand luggage during a flight. Before doing so, you must remove the batteries from the lamp:
- Since there is a risk of fire if you accidentally press the flashlight's on switch, it must not be ready for use. That means there must be no batteries or lamps in the lamp. Otherwise it must not be transported.
- Even if you have an LED flashlight with you, you must remove the battery before taking it with you. You can transport the batteries separately in your hand luggage.
- Please note that there is an upper limit for taking batteries with you. This also includes power banks and other batteries that you have with you. Also think of your smartphone or laptop.
- Commercial batteries are generally not a problem. Lithium-ion batteries must not exceed a capacity of 100 watt-hours. If you cannot meet this limit, some airlines have a special rule.
- In some cases, a particularly large flashlight can also count as a weapon. The security control is responsible for assessing what is still in the frame. To be on the safe side, you should rather just pack a small flashlight.
