Task manager no longer starts - what to do?
If the task manager no longer starts, the cause is often a change in the registry. We will show you how to solve the problem.
Task manager doesn't start anymore - you can do that
If the task manager can no longer be started by right-clicking on the taskbar or using the key combination "Ctrl" + "Shift" + "Esc", it is probably a threat. The reason for the problem is a change in the registry database.
- Press the "Windows" and "R" keys simultaneously so that the "Execute" command opens.
- Enter "regedit" in the field and click the "OK" button. If you confirm the subsequent security question with "Yes", the registry editor starts.
- Now go to the following path by opening the folders one by one using the navigation on the left: "HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ System".
- You will now see the "DisableTaskMgr" file on the left. Double click on the file, change the value from "1" to "0" and confirm with "OK".
- Finally, close the window and confirm the query with "Yes". The Task Manager can be called up again after a restart.
Check the PC for viruses
The most common cause of the missing task manager is a virus. This changes the system so that you cannot stop the malicious process via the Task Manager.
- Download the free Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program from us and start it. This is an extremely reliable virus scanner.
- Then check your system and remove any finds.
If you continue to experience problems with your PC, you should perform a system restore.
