Keyboard in English: How to switch to German

If your keyboard has suddenly changed from German to English, you can undo the process very quickly. We'll show you how it's done.
Windows 10: switch English keyboard to German
- Open the start menu and select the "Settings" using the gear icon.
- In the "Time and Language" category, switch to the "Language" area on the left.
- Click on the language "German (Germany)" below. If the language is not visible, add German using the plus button.
- Select the "Options" item and you will find the "Keyboards" area below.
- Decide here for "German (QWERTZ)". If another keyboard is selected, remove it and add the desired keyboard using the plus button.
Older versions of Windows: Change keyboard language
- Under older Windows versions, you will find a small button on the taskbar at the bottom right called "DE" or "EN". Here you can change the keyboard directly with one click.
- Alternatively, the key combination [Shift] + [Alt] will help you. This allows you to switch from the English to the German keyboard even faster.
Switch the keyboard in the control panel from English to German
As an alternative to the previous instructions, you can also adjust the keyboard language in the Control Panel. This way only works on Windows versions like Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP.
- Open the control panel and select the category "Time, language and region".
- Depending on the Windows version, you will find the setting under "Language" and then "Options" or under "Change keyboards and input methods".
- Here you can change the language of the keyboard to German and save the change with the "OK" button.
