Keyboard makes tones instead of characters - you can do that
An incorrect setting in Windows can cause the keyboard to emit sounds such as beeps or clicks instead of characters. We'll show you how to solve the problem.
Keyboard makes tones instead of characters: Deactivate touch delay
The most likely cause of the error is the attack delay. This is activated and deactivated again by a long press on the Shift key.
- Press the right shift key for at least eight seconds.
- You will hear a beep to confirm that the touch delay has been deactivated.
Keyboard makes sounds instead of characters: update drivers
If the stop delay was not the cause of the error, restart the PC first. Small mistakes can often be solved by this. Then update the driver of your keyboard:
- Open the device manager. For Windows 10 and Windows 8, click on "Settings" in the Start menu and select "Devices". At the bottom click on "Device Manager". In Windows 7, click on "Control Panel" in the Start menu and then on "Device Manager" in the classic view.
- Right-click your keyboard under "Keyboards" and select "Update Driver".
- In the next window, click "Automatically search for the latest driver software".
- The current drivers are searched and installed.
