You won't find many special characters on your keyboard, such as the up, down, right, and left arrows. Instead, you need a special key combination to enter the symbols.
Enter up and down arrows and right and left using the keyboard
To be able to enter the four arrow symbols using a key combination, you need a keyboard with a numeric keypad:
- Hold down the [Alt] key to the left of the space bar and then enter the following combinations of numbers on the numeric keypad.
- Up arrow: [Alt] + 24
- Down arrow: [Alt] + 25
- Right arrow: [Alt] + 26
- Left arrow: [Alt] + 27
Copy and paste arrows down, up, right and left
If your keyboard does not have a number pad, you can also insert the arrow symbols using a small trick. To do this, enter the numbers below where you want the arrow to appear. Then mark the four digits and press the key combination [Alt] + [C] to convert them into the Unicode arrows.
- Up arrow: 2191
- Down arrow: 2193
- Right arrow: 2192
- Left arrow: 2190
- However, this only works in Office. Elsewhere you have to search for and copy the arrows in the character table.
We will show you on the next page how you can insert other special characters in Word and Co.
