If you want to insert the unequal character (≠) under Microsoft Office or Windows, there is a certain key combination that allows you to do this. In the following practical tip we will show you which keys you have to press for this.
Enter unequal characters in Word and Excel
To insert the unequal character in Word, Powerpoint, Excel or another office program, all you need is a number and a key combination.
- First enter the number "2260" and then press the "Alt" and "C" keys simultaneously.
- With older versions of Office you have to hold down the minus sign "-" in addition to "Alt" and "C".
- The number then automatically changes to the desired unequal character.
Type in unequal characters in all programs
Outside of Word and Co., you can also create the character in another way, provided your keyboard has a number pad on the right side.
- First of all, check whether you can enter numbers using the block. If this is not the case, press the "Num" button in the upper area. Then hold down the "Alt" key at the bottom left and type in the number 8800 on the number pad. The unequal sign then appears.
- This works in many programs, but not in all. Alternatively, you can find the character in the list of special characters in Office and Windows. To do this, simply press the "Windows" and "R" keys and enter the "charmap" command. Below you will find the unequal character and all other special characters.
- The problem is much easier to fix on Mac OS. Here you hold down the "Alt" key and then tap on the equal sign.
This practical tip shows you how to put the unequal sign on a key combination that is easier for you to remember.
