Update Teamspeak 3 server - how it works
An update of your Teamspeak 3 server eliminates security-related problems and offers new functions - simply and quickly. Here's how to update a Linux Teamspeak 3 server.
Step 1: Download the latest Linux server files
In order to update the Teamspeak 3 server, you need the current server software. You can find them on the Teamspeak download page.
- Scroll to the "Linux" overview and click on the "Download" button behind "Server x86" (32-bit version). If you are using a 64-bit operating system, click the "Download" button behind "Server amd64".
- You will be asked to read the End User License Agreement. Then select "I agree" and finally "Submit" if you agree.
- Once you have downloaded the archive, unzip it to your desktop.
Step 2: preparing the Linux server
To be able to successfully update your Teamspeak server to Linux, your V or root server must be prepared for it. That's how it's done:
- Start your SSH client (e.g. PuTTY) and log in to manage your Teamspeak server.
- Change to the installation directory of your server, for example with the command: "cd / home / teamspeak3" (without quotation marks).
- Stop your server with the command "./ts3server_startscript.sh stop" (without quotes). Tip: You can use the "Tab" key to automatically complete file names.
Step 3: Upload the current Teamspeak 3 server version
After you have stopped your Teamspeak server, you can update it. Important: For security reasons, you should back up your Teamspeak server files on your computer before you perform the update. In an emergency, you can use the old files.
- Start your client with which you upload files to your server (e.g. WinSCP) and log in.
- In the directory overview of the "WinSCP" interface, change to the main directory "home" and then to the subdirectory "teamspeak3", or to the corresponding location of your Teamspeak server.
- Drag the new server data from your desktop into the directory of your server with your mouse - the upload should start.
Step 4: start Teamspeak 3 server
When all files have been successfully uploaded, start the updated Teamspeak server:
- Enter the command "./ts3server_startscript.sh start" (without quotes) in your SSH client.
Step 5: Check for a successful Teamspeak server update
Finally, make sure that your Teamspeak server has been updated to the latest version.
- Current server version: Start your Teamspeak 3 client and connect to your server.
- Click on the name of your server. The updated TeamSpeak 3 server version should now be listed next to "Version" in the right field of TeamSpeak 3.
- Rights system takeover: Open the last server log file in your server installation directory with your FTP program. Look for an entry like this: "2014-01-22 13: 27: 00.123456 | INFO | SQL | | updated permissions to version"
- Your rights system was successfully taken over if the entry of your server matches this (apart from the date and time) and the correct server version is at the end.
This practical tip was carried out on a V-Server with Debian 7.0 in the 32-bit version. This practical tip shows you what you have to do when your Teamspeak 3 stops working.
