Telekom: HD Voice - what is it?
Deutsche Telekom has recently launched "HD Voice" for mobile and fixed-line tariffs. We tell you in our practical tip what is behind it.
HD Voice: Telekom's new language standard
With HD Voice, Telekom provides the counterpart to HD television: a significantly higher voice quality. Vodafone also relies on the new standard.
- To achieve this, new transmission technology is used. During phone calls, your voice is recorded, digitized and then transmitted. So far, the codec AMR-NB (Advanced Multi-Rate Narrow Band) was used, which can transmit frequencies up to 3400 hearts.
- The new AMR-WB (Advanced Multi-Rate Wide Band) codec transmits frequencies of up to 7000 hearts, which improves speech intelligibility and makes the person on the other end of the line appear much more present.
- HD Voice also suppresses noise. For example, if you walk along a street, you can understand HD Voice better.
- To use the new standard, UMTS reception and a compatible smartphone or, in the case of the fixed network, an IP-based connection with a suitable router are required.
