Dye carpet: how it works
If you dye a carpet and want to breathe new life into it, no great effort is necessary. We show you how you can refresh your old carpets in a few simple steps.
Color carpet: materials and utensils
You only need a few materials to dye carpets. Smaller and single-colored carpets in particular shine in new splendor thanks to the method.
- Textile color: With a packet of textile color you can dye between 300g and 700g carpet fabric. So you have to weigh your carpet beforehand in order to know the required amount of color. For a more intense result, you should either use more or dark color.
- The dyeing process takes place in the washing machine .
- You need disposable gloves to discolor your hands.
- Attention! When dyeing, be sure to pay attention to the material of the carpet, because synthetic fibers such as polyester or acrylic cannot be colored. Only carpets made of cotton, wool, silk and hair yarn can be given a new color on your own.
- Mixed fibers can also be dyed, but they must have a natural fiber content of at least 60 percent.
- You also have to check whether your carpet can withstand a washing temperature of at least 40 ° C. This temperature is required for dyeing.
This is how dyeing works
Do not be surprised if the result comes out of the machine weaker than expected. The materials of the carpet can be very different in thickness and structure, which significantly affects the dyeing result.
- Clean the carpet thoroughly and hang it up to dry. This step is important because otherwise the fibers cannot absorb enough color.
- Now put the carpet in the washing machine and a corresponding number of packages of the color in the drum. Of course you have to open it according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Close the door and set a gentle cycle that has a temperature of 40 ° C. Switch off the spin cycle.
- After the wash, wash again with clear water and hang the carpet on the clothesline. It is best to wear gloves.
- Let the carpet dry before you put it back in its original place.
