Tesla Supercharger: costs are extremely high for drivers
When Tesla installed the first Superchargers on German roads, charging for Tesla owners was completely free. This continues to apply to vehicles ordered before May 20, 2017. Owners of newer Teslas, on the other hand, have to pay for the store. We'll give you an overview of what you need to know.
Tesla Supercharger costs are rising - all information at a glance
If you have a Tesla Model S or Model X, you can charge 400 kW / h per year free of charge on the Supercharger. After that, however, fees apply. Charging is billed in minutes and is divided into two stages in Germany:
- With normal charging with up to 60 kW charging current (level 1) you pay a price of 0.17 euros per minute.
- Fast charging with more than 60 kW (level 2) costs 0.34 euros per minute, twice as much.
- The penalty fees that Tesla charges for long idle times after charging are also quite steep. If you do not drive your Tesla away from the Supercharger within five minutes of the end of charging, you will have to pay a fee of EUR 0.35 per minute.
- However, the blocking fee only applies if more than 50 percent of the loading spaces are occupied at the respective location. You will also be informed in good time by your Tesla app when the charging process is complete.
- Tesla emphasizes that the blocking fee is not intended to maximize profits, but rather to provide more free loading spaces on the superchargers.
