Tethered and untethered jailbreak - what's the difference?
If you want to jailbreak your iPhone, you can choose between a tethered and an untethered jailbreak. We explain exactly where the difference is in this practical tip.
The difference between a tethered and an untethered jailbreak
- Tethered: A tethered jailbreak, in German "wired jailbreak", needs support every time the device is started. He is unable to start himself. Once your iPhone or iPad has crashed, you have switched it off or the battery has failed, it will no longer work on its own. Only when you connect the device to the computer via USB cable can you start the jailbreak again with the appropriate program or use normal iOS again.
- Untethered: An untethered jailbreak, on the other hand, is a finished jailbreak that works and can be used like normal iOS. It starts automatically together with the iPhone or iPad.
- Comparison: Tethered jailbreaks are mostly released as pre-releases of untethered jailbreaks. Since it takes some time until the developers have cracked the latest iOS, the tethered jailbreak mostly serves as a preview.
- Caution: Use a jailbreak - no matter whether tethered or untethered - you can catch viruses faster. In addition, the stability of the system suffers and the guarantee for your iPhone or iPad is void.
