Expensive washing mistakes: you should know that
Washing mistakes can have expensive consequences, but can be easily avoided. We will explain what you should pay attention to so that not only the laundry but also the washing machine are not damaged.
Use household appliances carefully and avoid expensive mistakes
- A washing machine has a certain capacity - you should be aware of that. Do not put too much laundry in the drum, but let some air out. Then your laundry will be thoroughly cleaned and the detergent rinsed out.
- If you wash several loads in a row, you also save energy. The household appliance can use the residual heat from the previous wash cycle and therefore does not have to re-heat.
- If the washing machine is not packed, the laundry will be clean even at low temperatures. Only in the case of illness should you choose high temperatures to kill germs.
- You can also save money if you dose detergent sensibly: a lot doesn't help anymore, it does more damage. The machine will then not wash all the detergent residues out of the laundry. This can leave unsightly white spots or cause skin irritation. You can also make detergents yourself.
- You don't need expensive fabric softener. On the one hand, it reduces the suction power of towels, on the other hand, the laundry also becomes soft in the dryer. If you do not use this, a few sprinkles of lemon juice will also provide soft laundry.
- There is also no need for a decalcifying agent or softener, which, according to the advertising, will make your washing machine live longer. As a rule, these have already been added to the detergents.
- Proper care extends the life of your washing machine and thus saves money. The measures include, for example, regularly cleaning the washing machine and not forgetting the fluff filter.
Sorting laundry saves money
As a rule, the laundry is pre-sorted by color.
- That makes sense, but it is not enough. Organize your laundry according to materials. Silk wants to be treated differently than linen, cotton can withstand more than synthetic fibers.
- You should always wash jeans and other pants with zippers without any other items, especially delicate items. The zipper can get caught and damage other clothing. That is why you should always put bras in a laundry net.
- In general, you should always close zippers before you do the laundry. This applies not only to pants, but in particular to pillow cases and bed linen. Then the clasp lasts longer.
- Dark clothes won't wash out as quickly if you turn them inside out before putting them in the drum. this is especially true for black jeans. If you also use special detergent for black clothing, black will remain black for a long time.
- You can wash down, but you have to pay attention to a few things. We therefore show in separate articles how to properly wash a down jacket or pillow.
