In Thunderbird, terms that have been entered into the dictionary by hand can be edited subsequently in an extra directory. This is necessary, for example, if you want to correct a misspelled word or just want to delete it.
How to edit the user dictionary in Firefox
Basically, add your own term to the dictionary by composing a new email. Write a word there and then save it via "Spelling"> "Add word" (see picture). But what if you accidentally put misspelled terms there? Then use a trick that can be used to correct spelling mistakes in your personal dictionary:
- First you have to open the window for a new email again. To do this, click on the Compose icon in the top left of the main menu bar.
- Here you click on "Spelling" at the top left of the send button. If the box is greyed out, click with your mouse in the compose box. Then the button becomes visible and you can click on it.
- Then select the "Edit" button in the "User dictionary" area (see picture).
- There you will find a list of all terms that have been added to the user dictionary. You can delete unwanted entries by selecting the relevant entry and clicking "Remove". The dictionary entry can also be corrected immediately with "Replace".
