Thunderbird: Create filters - how it works
Create filters to automatically organize your emails in Thunderbird. This guide shows you how to create and use the useful filters.
Thunderbird: Create and apply filters
- You can create a folder in your inbox beforehand. You can use this to move filtered emails there. To do this, right-click on the inbox you want to filter. In the opened menu select "New Folder" and type in a name.
- In Thunderbird, click on the icon consisting of three lines underneath each other at the top right (see picture gallery). If the icon is not available in your Thunderbird, the main toolbar is probably not activated. You activate it via "View" -> "Toolbars" and a check mark at "Main toolbar".
- After clicking on the application menu icon, select "Filter" -> "Filter ...".
- The filter window opens. Enter the email account that you want to filter under "Filter for". Then click on "New".
- In the "Edit filter" window, enter a name for your filter under "Filter name". Decide whether you want to run the filter manually or automatically when you get a message. Create a "condition" by clicking on the fields in the first white field. One condition is "subject", "contains", "CHIP". If you want to build more conditions, click on the "+" next to the condition. You can decide whether all conditions should be met, at least one or none.
- In the field below "Actions to be carried out" you decide what should happen to the filtered messages. One example action is moving to a specific folder. For example, enter the folder that you created in advance.
- Finally click on "OK". The filter has been created.
- Now apply the filter directly. Under "Apply selected filter (s) to" select "Inbox". To do this, click on "Run now".
