Thunderbird: Set up a Freenet account
In this practical tip, we explain how to set up your Freenet account in Thunderbird. Here you should pay attention to the correct server data. We explain step by step what to do.
Set up a Freenet account in Thunderbird
- In the Thunderbird program, go to "Tools" and then to "Account Settings".
- Click "Account Actions" below and then click "Add Email Account".
- Now enter your Freenet e-mail address under "Name" and also under "E-Mail". Then enter your Freenet password and click on "Next".
- The appropriate server data will now be searched for you. Check whether the address "mx.freenet.de" (without quotation marks) is stored under the incoming and outgoing server.
- Either way, click "Manually Edit" again to check that the port numbers are correct.
- If "SSL / TLS" is selected under SSL, then the port number should be 587 for SMTP, 993 for IMAP and 995 if you have chosen POP3.
- If you have chosen the STARTTLS encryption type, you should have port 587 for SMTP, port 143 for IMAP and 110 for POP3.
- Select "Encrypted Password" as the authentication method. Then click on "Test again" and save with "Done".
- Your Freenet account is now set up. You can use the "Retrieve" button (top left in Thunderbird) to compare all emails.
