Thunderbird could not find any settings for your email account - what to do?
If Thunderbird could not find any settings for your email account, you have to do it yourself. We explain what important information you need to look for so that you can set up your account easily.
Thunderbird - Create an account from an unknown provider
Most mail providers already have the settings saved in the Thunderbird database. If you create a new account from a well-known provider in Thunderbird, all settings will be imported automatically. If this is not the case, proceed as follows:
- The most important data you need is the provider's IMAP and SMTP server address. There are lists on the Internet with a large number of providers.
- If you don't get a hit here, you will find it at the latest on the website of the provider.
- Possibly. the email provider also uses ports that deviate from the standard settings. You will always find this information next to the server addresses.
- After Thunderbird does not find any presets, the advanced settings appear automatically. There you can manually enter the addresses and ports found.
- In the screenshot you can see an example configuration for the fictitious provider "unknownmail.de". The username usually corresponds to the abbreviation before the "@", which you have selected yourself.
- Then click on "Re-test" or "Re-test". Now the further setup of the account should work.
