Thunderbird: Set up read confirmation for mails
With Thunderbird you can, among other things, set up read receipts for your mails. However, this does not always mean that the recipient actually read the mail. We'll show you what to look out for.
Set up acknowledgment of receipt in Thunderbird
If you want to know if your message has actually arrived, do the following:
- Open Thunderbird and write an email with any account.
- Before you send your message, click on "Options" -> "Request acknowledgment of receipt (MDN)".
- Now you can send your message as usual by clicking "Send".
- If the recipient opens the mail (for example with Thunderbird), he can decide whether to send you the confirmation of receipt or not (see screenshot). The recipient could also click "Ignore" or read the message below. Therefore, you cannot say with certainty whether your counterpart has read the message or not.
Tested under Thunderbird version: [24.5.0]. If you no longer need an address, you can also delete the email account in Thunderbird.
