Thunderbird: Delete mails completely - how it works
This practical tip shows you how to completely delete emails in Thunderbird. If you do not work in the browser interface, but in the email client on your computer, you usually only move the emails to the trash. We'll tell you how to remove the messages from the server.
Delete emails completely in Thunderbird
As soon as you put an email in Thunderbird in the trash, it remains there.
- To completely delete the emails, first open Thunderbird.
- Delete all emails so that they are moved to the trash.
- Navigate to the trash and remove the emails there too.
- From the menu, choose File> Compress All Folders Of Account.
- If you want to set that future e-mails in the trash are automatically deleted, you will find the setting under "Tools"> "Account Settings"> "Server" under "Server Settings". To do this, set the "When deleting a message" option to "Remove immediately".
