Thunderbird: Tag emails with keywords
If you receive a lot of emails, you will quickly lose track. In Thunderbird you can therefore tag your emails with keywords. We'll show you how.
Thunderbird: Tag mails with keywords
- To assign keywords manually, select one or more messages, click on "Keywords" in the main toolbar and activate the desired term.
- You can also assign multiple keywords here. The emails then appear in the corresponding color of the first keyword given.
Create keywords in Thunderbird and use them in the search
- With the command "Keywords"> "New Keyword" you can create your own categories and link them to a color using the small adjacent button.
- The keywords can also be used later in the search:
- Via "Edit"> "Search"> "Search for messages", select "Keywords" as a condition in the left combo box.
- In addition, set the logical condition such as "Contains" and select the desired keyword on the right, such as "To be done".
- After clicking on "Search" you will receive a list of all relevant messages.
- You can even save the search query for quick access later »Save as virtual folder«.
Automatic assignment of keywords with filters
The assignment of keywords can even be automated with filters:
- To do this, open the "Tools"> "Filters" command and click on "New".
- Then enter a filter name and determine the necessary conditions.
- At the bottom of "Actions to be performed", select the "Add keyword" option on the left, which you can define to the right.
- You can also have filters run using keywords. To do this, select "Keywords" as the condition above and define the setting as for a search query. However, this only works if you have already assigned the required keywords when working with several filters.
Note: Keywords that have already been assigned can usually only be removed manually. This is only possible with a filter if you use the »FiltaQuilla« extension.
