Thunderbird: Forgot password - you can do that
If you forget the master password for Thunderbird, you can reset the password. In this guide, we explain how this works and what you need to consider.
Forgot master password for Thunderbird: You can do that
- If you have forgotten your Thunderbird master password, click on the Settings icon in the top right-hand corner. Select "Tools" and then "Error Console". Alternatively, you can use the shortcut [CTRL] + [Shift] + [J].
- Now insert the following command in the code field: openDialog ("chrome: //pippki/content/resetpassword.xul")
- In the window that opens, click "Reset" to have your password reset. You can then set a new master password.
- Please note that resetting will permanently delete all saved passwords for security reasons.
If you forget the password for your email access, resetting the master password in Thunderbird does not help. In this case, we have separate instructions for Gmail, Hotmail and GMX.
