If you want to transport animals with economic benefits, you need an animal transport certificate. In this practical tip, we will show you which requirements you have to meet in order to receive the certificate of proficiency.
Animal transport certificate: overview of requirements
If you want to transport your animals further than 65 kilometers for economic benefit, you need an animal transport certificate. However, this certificate of proficiency is only valid for journeys under 8 hours. In the following points, we list various requirements for receiving an animal transport certificate from the Veterinary Office.
- If you are a livestock farmer, you can attend a course on "Protecting animals during transport". You will then receive a certificate of competence from the veterinary office.
- If you already have relevant vocational training as a land, animal or horse host, the animal transport certificate will be issued to you without an additional course.
- You can also obtain a certificate of proficiency with a degree in agriculture or a training license in accordance with the guidelines of the German Equestrian Association.
- Courses are offered by the DEULA, the Chamber of Agriculture or the Veterinary Office.
You do not need an animal transport certificate for this
In some cases, you do not need a certificate of competence to transport animals. Also in the case of commercial trips, there are various special regulations that rule out the need for an animal transport certificate.
- For a seasonal migration of livestock, you do not need a certificate of competence to transport animals.
- If you transport your own animals in your vehicle less than 50 kilometers, no animal transport certificate is required either.
- If you are transporting your animals for a non-economic reason, you do not have to present a certificate of competence here either. This includes, for example, trips arranged by a veterinarian to or from a veterinary clinic.
