TikTok: The app simply explained
The TikTok app is one of the most loaded apps along with Facebook and WhatsApp. In this practical tip, we explain what TikTok is and how the app works.
TikTok aka DouYin: What is this app?
The free app TikTok or DouYin, as it is called in the country of origin, has been leading the download charts on the iPhone for a long time. However, this is not the case in Germany or the USA, but in China.
- It is a social network, similar to Instagram. Instead of pictures, however, short, self-made videos are accompanied by music. There is often dancing or singing along in sync.
- In Germany, DouYin is available under the name Tik Tok. However, the app has not yet become very well known in this country.
- In the western world, users rely on Muscal.ly instead. Musical.ly is a similar app to Douyin, but it was launched two years earlier.
- At the end of 2017, TikTok bought out the competitor Musical.ly. The company's more than 200 million users were worth a billion US dollars.
- Since Douyin (Tik Tok) is particularly common in Asia, very few German users can do anything with it. In the meantime Musical.ly has also been renamed Tik Tok in Germany.
- In the next practical tip, we will introduce you to the now identical Musical.ly app.
Tik Tok: The Instagram for Music
Today's stars of the social media world have achieved their fame not only through YouTube or Instagram, but now also through Tik Tok. In addition to the largest market in China, Tik Tok is now also becoming increasingly popular in the USA and Europe.
- Similar to Instagram, it is entertaining and easily digestible content. Since the videos are usually limited to a length of 10 seconds, new impressions always patter on the user.
- As with YouTube and Instagram, the stars of Tik Tok can also profit from their followers. Tik Tok is basically free, but users can donate money to their idols in live streams. The streaming platform Twitch follows a similar principle.
