Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition - better than standard version?
The "Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition" brings Lara Croft's beginnings to Xbox One and PlayStation 4. We will clarify in our practical tip whether the next-gen version is better than its predecessors.
New gadgets, no changes to the gameplay
The basic part of the game remains the same. So don't expect new gameplay features or an expanded story. Small gimmicks are added:
- On Xbox One, you can use Kinect to interact with relics.
- The DualShock controller of the PlayStation 4 lights up in matching colors for the respective situation. If Lara Croft fires a weapon, for example, the controller flashes red.
Graphics adapted for the next-gen consoles PS4 and Xbox One
The already beautiful Tomb Raider looks even better in the "Definitive Edition" than on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, which benefits the atmosphere of the action game.
- The heroine Lara Croft has been completely renewed. The model Megan Faquhar, which served as a template, was perfectly hit by the developers.
- Raindrops or blood splatters now lie down credibly on her body. The hair also reacts to its movements and other influences such as the wind with the help of the optimized "TressFX" technology from AMD.
- Improved lighting effects, denser vegetation and more frequently used particle effects make the whole game more rousing. The story gains intensity and is even more fun.
- "Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition" also supports real Full HD. The game was scaled up on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 due to technical limitations.
All Tomb Raider DLCs and other additional content
Since the standard version of Tomb Raider is available, many DLCs have come out. The "Definitive Edition" already contains the otherwise fee-based content. There are also other bonuses that are not relevant to the game.
- Overall, the DLCs include a new single player level, 5 single player upgrades, 6 single player outfits, 4 multiplayer characters, 8 multiplayer cards and 6 multiplayer weapons.
- Digital versions of the "Dark Horse" comic, the developer diary ("Final Hours") and the art book from "Brady Games" are now included.
Conclusion: Definitely better, but too expensive to buy again
If you haven't played Tomb Raider before and have a next-gen console, we can only advise you to buy the "Definitive Edition". The great game about change by Lara Croft looks fantastic and can still convince in terms of gameplay.
- If you already have the standard version, you should consider buying it. Because the game flow remains the same and then the price of 60 euros is too high at the start of sales.
Tip for on the go: Tomb Raider is also available as an iOS game.
