Output sound only via headset - how it works
When you connect a headset to your laptop, the sound should only come from the headphones. In some cases, however, the standard Windows configuration strikes and your notebook continues to play sound. This practical tip shows you how to play the sound exclusively through your headset headphones.
Configure playback devices: Play sound only via headset
To only hear the sound on your headset, follow these steps:
- Open the control panel. To do this, simultaneously press the [Windows] + [S] keys and enter "Control Panel".
- Now click on "Hardware and Sound" and then on "Sound".
- Under the "Playback" tab you will usually find several devices, including the "loudspeaker". Right-click on it and select "Disable" to disable sound from your notebook speakers.
This practical tip relates to Windows 8 and 8.1. In Windows 7, the settings work according to the same scheme. In another practical tip, we will show you how to increase the volume of your headset. If the sound is still too quiet for you, you will find the best 3 gaming headsets here.
