Improve sound quality with Audacity: the best tips
Audacity can also significantly improve sound quality. We will show you helpful tips that you can apply to your soundtrack straight away.
Audacity sound quality: remove the noise
To benefit from good sound quality, you should first remove the noise in Audacity:
- First, mark a part of the sound track on which only the noise can be heard. Then select the "Noise removal" in the "Effects" area and have a noise profile of your sound track determined in this way.
- If this is successful, then mark the entire audio track. Go back to the effects and select "Noise Removal" again. This time let the noise be removed and then confirm the selection by clicking on "Ok".
Improve sound quality via compressor
In a further step you can, for example, fix clipping and adjust the sound to your microphone with which you have recorded:
- Click Effects> Compressor. Try to make the sound sound louder and more even by customizing the dots. Determine the limit value, the background noise, the ratio, the response time and the decay time one after the other.
- The 3: 1 setting is particularly worthwhile for the ratio, whereas the response time should be around 0.5 seconds and the decay time should be 1.0 seconds. Words are emphasized optimally and sound much more pleasant. Be sure to listen before confirming your input, the exact values depend of course on the microphone, voice and room.
Change the equalizer settings
Individual settings can also be made on the equalizer:
- Remember that the voice is best perceived between 100 and 200 Hertz. Therefore, leave the settings mainly in this frame.
- In addition, the tone can be raised by dragging the line with the mouse. However, do not try to exceed the six decibel limit. Because in this way the sound sounds unnatural and is no longer pleasant for the human ear. However, it is best to test different variants here so that you can achieve the right sound quality.
