With the "Too Good To Go" app, you can buy groceries from restaurants and bakeries more cheaply after closing time and thus fight food waste.
Food waste - that's what it looks like
Around a third of all food produced worldwide is thrown away. In Germany up to 18 million tons of food end up in the garbage. Half of it is thrown away in private households.
- Food is most often thrown away in Europe and North America. In Africa and South Asia, on the other hand, food loss occurs mainly during the harvest and due to inadequate storage, packaging and cooling of the products.
- Food is often disposed of because it does not meet the standards or the desired appearance.
- In private households too, people often buy in large quantities and without thinking. What is not eaten and gets bad then goes to the trash.
Too Good To Go - how to use the app
Every day, unused food is disposed of by restaurants and bakeries - with the "Too Good To Go" app you can purchase them inexpensively and thus save them from the garbage can.
- "Too Good To Go" could be translated as "too good to throw away".
- The app is available for both Android and iOS devices:
- The number of participating companies is increasing steadily and there are already some shops almost everywhere in Germany that sell their remnants cheaper after closing via the app. Large chains such as the North Sea, Real and Dean & David also participate.
- The app works so that you can reserve a portion in the store of your choice during the day. You can then pick them up at the end of the working day. The exact pick-up period is specified in the app.
- The portions cost between € 2 and € 5. It can vary how many groceries are left at the end of the business day - depending on this, the portions are put together. So it happens that you get a lot of food very cheaply on one day, on other days the portion turns out a little smaller.
- You can pay by credit card, Sofortüberweisung or Paypal.
