The Total Commander doesn't just organize your local data. It also provides access to cloud services. Read how to integrate your Dropbox into the alternative file manager in the following article.
Dropbox in Total Commander requires the cloud plugin
In the standard installation, Total Commander gives you access to the local data on your computer and to files in your internal network. To enable access to the Dropbox account, you must extend the Total Commander with the cloud plugin. You can find out exactly what a cloud is in a further article.
- On the website //www.ghisler.com/dplugins.htm you will find all plugins for the Total Commander. Find the plugin named "Cloud" and download it.
- Open the just downloaded ZIP file in Total Commander with a double click.
- The program now asks you whether you want to install the plugin. Confirm this and follow the further instructions.
Connect to the Dropbox
After installing the cloud plugin, you can access your Dropbox storage.
- Click the network icon in Total Commander. You will find a new "Cloud" folder here. Open it with a double click.
- Press [F7] to create a new directory. Enter a directory name, such as "Dropbox", and confirm with "Ok".
- A "Connect to Cloud" dialog box appears. Select the "Dropbox" entry from the "Cloud provider" selection list if it is not already set.
- Under "User name" enter the user name of your Dropbox account. Leave all other settings unchanged and click on "Ok".
- Double-click the folder you just created to open it. You now need to enter your Dropbox password and confirm in the next window that Total Commander can access your Dropbox account.
- If the connection has been successfully established, the files and directories from your Dropbox now appear in Total Commander.
If your Dropbox storage space is exhausted, you must either delete data or buy new storage. However, there are a few tricks you can use to unlock additional free storage. You can read about them in the next post.
