Total Commander: Compare directories - how it works
The Total Commander is a powerful alternative to Windows Explorer. This practical tip shows you how to compare directories with the file manager.
Compare directories with the Total Commander
With the Total Commander, many file operations can be done much more efficiently than with Windows on-board tools. In addition to a clear copy function, there is also the option of synchronizing directories. But you don't always want to move as many files back and forth. Sometimes a simple comparison of two directories is enough and it is done quickly.
- In the left area of the Total Commander, open the first directory to be compared
- Then change to the second directory in the right pane.
- Now click on "Compare directories" in the "Commands" menu or simply press the key combination [SHIFT] + [F2]. The program searches the directories and marks all files that are only available on one page in red.
- Alternatively, you can also use the "Mark new, hide same" function. As a result, the red markings are identical to those in the previous step. However, all files that are the same in both directories are hidden. This makes it easier to keep track of things, especially with large amounts of files.
