Set up tracking protection for Internet Explorer
If you surf the web a lot, you should set up Internet Explorer tracking protection, because websites are increasingly using different methods to spy on users' surfing behavior and to link them to profiles via the connection to social networks.
Enable Internet Explorer tracking protection
- Open the command »Tools | Tracking Protection ". The following dialog shows possibly already installed lists and offers the possibility to install lists via the link »Get list for tracking protection online«.
- For example, use the "Fraunhofer SIT TPL" as regularly updated protection for websites popular in Germany. You can find more information about the list online at sit.fraunhofer.de.
- After clicking on "Add" you activate the list with an additional confirmation. You can also work with several lists in parallel and, for example, activate the »EasyList« additionally.
- By double-clicking on such a list, you can display the content and see all websites that potentially use tracking and on which it is therefore filtered. Confirm the open dialogs with »Close«.
How to use IE tracking protection while surfing
- A small blue lock symbol on the right in the address field of the browser informs about the filtering.
- On some websites, filtering can lead to the content not being displayed correctly. In individual cases, you can still decide for yourself whether you want to accept tracking for a certain website in order to display it correctly.
- To do this, click on the blue symbol and select »Deactivate tracking protection« in the displayed message. Such a page-specific change will remain in the future.
