Wear detection - what is it?
With the wearer detection, Google is rolling out a new smart lock feature for Android smartphones. What this is and how to activate it is shown in this article.
Wear detection on Android - what is it exactly?
The wearer detection is part of the Smart Lock features, which are designed to simplify logging on to the smartphone. However, the stretcher detection has set itself the goal of completely eliminating unnecessary registration.
- Android detects via the smartphone's acceleration sensor whether the phone is currently in your hand or in your pocket.
- You unlock the smartphone once and then no longer have to enter a pattern or PIN as long as you wear the smartphone on your body. It doesn't matter whether it's in your hand or in your pocket.
- However, if you place the device on the table in front of you, it will be locked automatically and you will have to enter your PIN or pattern again.
- Note: If you give the device to someone else when it is unlocked, they will be able to access all the data.
Switch on wearer detection
- To activate the feature, open the settings and the item "Security". Select "Smart Lock" and tap "Wear detection".
- Confirm with "OK" to activate the feature.
- Note: The feature will gradually be unlocked on smartphones with Android 5 and higher. It is still unclear whether smartphones with earlier versions of Android will also receive the wearer detection.
