Fighting mosquitoes: home remedies and natural measures
Black mosquitoes can be fought quite well with home remedies, but you can hardly get rid of the vermin once they have moved into your apartment via houseplants. We'll show you how to get the plague under control.
Fighting mosquitoes: how does the vermin get into the apartment?
- Black gnats reach the apartment via plants. The little fliers can get to you via laid eggs in purchased potted plants or via potting soil.
- The pests don't really hurt: If you see the black mini mosquitoes flying around in the room, they are fully grown animals that live for about five days. During this time they do not eat or drink. They do not harm health and do not tamper with food.
- Their only purpose is to multiply - and in this, black gnats are extremely effective. A single mosquito has about 30 offspring, at least 20 of which are females. This results in 20 times 30 larvae, 600 animals already - and so it goes on with the offspring.
Fight against mosquitoes in the apartment with home remedies
Black gnats are imported with plants from southern countries. So you prefer it warm.
- If you observe the rapid increase in the number of small planes, "chasing" is a good measure. Open the window and chase out as many animals as possible, for example with a newspaper.
- Every animal that leaves your home can no longer reproduce with you. In winter, the mosquitoes do not survive our climate, and they have natural predators in numerous domestic insects.
- The next step should be to prevent the female blackbirds from laying eggs in the flower pots. To do this, stick so-called yellow stickers into the potting soil. The yellow color of the little tablets attracts the mosquitoes. The mini fliers then stick to the sticky surface of the cards.
- You can also distribute other such yellow boards around the room. This will catch the animals that roam the area.
- If the plants tolerate it, water only sparingly and preferably not from above, but only over the coaster.
- Sand also makes it difficult for the black gnats to lay eggs. Therefore, fill a three centimeter thick layer of sand on the potting soil. Bird sand or chinchilla sand is very suitable for this.
- Nutmeg is also helpful. This contains myristic acid, which acts as an insecticide. Grind some nutmeg finely and spread the powder over the potting soil.
- You can also use certain plants to control pests: carnivorous plants also eat black gnats. We will show you in another article how you can use carnivorous plants against flies.
