Sign the driver yourself - how it works
To be able to use third-party drivers in Windows, you must first sign them. Find out exactly how this works in this practical tip.
Sign drivers in Windows yourself - so it'll work
- First download the Windows Driver Kit and unzip it on the desktop.
- You also need the Ghostscript in the 32-bit version, even if you have a 64-bit system.
- Open the driver you want to sign with Ghostscript and look for the "INF" file.
- This file contains a line called "DriverVer". Change this line to "DriverVer = 04/21 / 2009, 1.0.0.0" and save the file.
- Then you have to open the console and navigate with "cd" to the folder of the tools downloaded first.
- Then enter "MAKECERT.EXE -r -n" CN = "-ss -sr LocalMachine" and exchange the respective variables accordingly. Confirm with [Enter].
- The next step is to create a CAT file by inserting the following content into a new text document: "inf2cat.exe / driver:" "signtool.exe sign / s / n" Signed "/ t //timestamp.verisign.com /scripts/timestamp.dll "" ". In the editor, click on "Save as"> "All files" file type and name the file "Signature.cat".
- Add this CAT file to the folder where the installation file of the respective program is located. Start the installation by double-clicking on the installation file.
