Truecrypt: enlarge container later
If the container created with TrueCrypt is full, you can enlarge it later. We'll show you exactly how.
Enlarge the TrueCrypt container later
Unfortunately, you cannot enlarge your containers later using TrueCrypt. So that you do not have to create a new container, a small tool helps:
- Download the free "extcv" program and open the ZIP file.
- Add the "extcv.exe" file it contains to the TrueCrypt directory. This is usually in the path "C: \ Program Files \ TrueCrypt".
- Then start the EXE file and confirm the security query with "Yes". The tool now starts.
- Select the path of the container below and click the "Start" button.
- After entering the password, you will be asked whether the container contains a hidden container or not. Choose the appropriate option.
- In the next step you can expand the container with the desired KB, MB or GB. The container is then enlarged in a few moments.
- Note: If it is a hidden container, it cannot be enlarged later with this tool.
We will show you how to change your TrueCrypt password in the next practical tip.
