Twitch: Set up the donation button - how it works

If you stream at Twitch, you can also make money by donating. In this article you will learn how to set up a “donation button” on your channel.
Twitch bits
Twitch Bits is the only way to support a streamer directly through the platform. Twitch keeps about half of the revenue: The viewer can purchase 100 bits for cheering for € 1.98, of which the streamer only receives € 1.
- Only Twitch partners and affiliates can accept Twitch bits through cheering.
- To enable this on your own channel, Twitch partners must activate this under Dashboard / Partner settings / Cheeren. For affiliates, the option is under Dashboard / Channel / Cheeren.
- If your chat suddenly says “[viewer] donated 100 €” someone tried to cheat you with the / me command. You can find out more about the chat commands here.
Donate through PayPal
The easiest external solution to receive donations is to use PayPal. There are PayPal.Me links, which you can activate for your PayPal account.
- You can set up this link either for use by "Friends and Family" or as a "Business Account". You can change this setting at any time.
- With the first option, receiving money is free, but the donor will be shown your full name. If you create your PayPal.Me link as a business account, you can change the displayed name, but you have to pay fees to PayPal (2.9% of the amount received + € 0.30).
- You can either link the link on your Twitch channel in the panel or you can even create a graphic "donation button" externally. In a new panel, add the graphic as an image and set your PayPal.Me link under "Blindlinks to:". You can also write a panel title and description.
Third Party Donations
- By using a third-party provider, you can make your name unrecognizable and provide viewers with more payment methods such as Bitcoin, PaysafeCard or similar.
- In addition, various features are also available to you, such as a graphical live notification in your stream, to honor and thank the donor.
- Well-known providers are: GamingForGood, Muxy, Streamelements, Streamlabs and Tipeeestream.
