Change Twitter name - how it works
If you are no longer satisfied with your Twitter name, you can easily change it. You must first differentiate between your user name and your profile name. Ultimately, however, both can be changed. This practical tip shows how this works.
Change the name in the Twitter profile
You can enter your own name in your Twitter profile. This should be a personal identifier - such as your real name or company name - so that your friends can identify you on Twitter. The profile name appears first in your tweets and in your profile.
- To change the profile name, you must first log in to Twitter.
- Now click on your profile picture on the left side of the website. Your personal Twitter page opens.
- Select the "Edit profile" item, click on your old name and enter a new one.
- Finally, confirm your entry by clicking on "Save changes".
Change the username on Twitter
The username is your actual identifier on Twitter. Therefore, it must not have been used by another user - it must therefore be "unique". You also enter your user name when you log in to Twitter.
- First click on your profile picture in the upper right corner of the Twitter website and select "Settings".
- Enter your desired Twitter name in the "Username" field. The network checks directly whether your desired name is available. If not, you have to come up with another one.
- Confirm your new user name with the "Save changes" button at the bottom of the page. The next time you log in, you must enter this name.
With a good Twitter name, you also have a better chance of becoming known. In the next practical tip, we will explain how you can gain even more followers in a short time.
