Typo3: move website - how it works
If you want to move your Typo3 website from one server to another, a few steps are necessary. We show you how it works.
Moving the Typo3 website: the preparations on the old server
- First copy the entire Typo3 installation to your computer via FTP.
- Since you also need your database for the new server, you have to do a database dump. You can back up databases up to 100MB in size using phpMy-Admin and then import them again later. Instructions can be found here.
- Back up larger databases with the command "mysqldump -h database-server -p -u MySQL-user ID database> filename.sql". Replace "database server" with your database server, "MySQL user ID" with your MySQL user ID, "database" with the relevant database and finally "file name" with the desired file name. For this type of database backup, you can install a MySQL client such as SQuirreL on your computer.
Moving the Typo3 website - how it works
Once you have backed up your Typo3 installation from the old server and created a database dump, the move to the new server can begin.
- First, upload your Typo3 page to the new server via FTP.
- The next step is to create a new database and import your database dump. With smaller databases, this works conveniently via phpMy-Admin. Use the command "mysql -h database-server -p -u MySQL-user ID database> file-name.sql."
- In order to refer to the database, you must also enter the database data in the "Localconf.php" file, ie database user and password. If "Localhost" is not the right place, you must also enter the path of the database.
- Now log in to the new page in the browser and check the directories in the install tool. They should all be marked in green.
- The move should now be complete and the page should be easily accessible on the new server.
For security reasons, you should also regularly create a backup of your new Typo3 page.
