Ubuntu: Disable Amazon search
Ubuntu Amazon Search can be useful. However, you can switch it off if you disturb the on-screen displays. We'll show you how it's done.
Temporarily disable Amazon search on Ubuntu
If you might want to use the Amazon suggestions again in the future, it is recommended that you only switch off the function temporarily.
- Enter "Privacy" in the search bar and click on the link that appears.
- By default, the privacy settings should now be opened under the "Search results" tab.
- Now set the "Show online search results" function to "Off" (see screenshot). You will no longer be offered Amazon products.
Permanently remove search on Ubuntu
To remove the search completely, you must uninstall the corresponding program in the Ubuntu software center.
- Open the Ubuntu software center on the left in your Unity interface (see screenshot).
- Search for "Shopping lens for unity" here. The program of the same name now appears under the search results and all you have to do is click "Remove". You may have to enter your password to legitimize the process.
- After you restarted the computer or logged in and out, the search criteria disappeared.
