Ubuntu: Bluetooth does not work - this may be the reason
If Bluetooth doesn't work on Ubuntu, you should check packages and Bluetooth adapters. We show you how this works in this practical tip.
You need these packages for Bluetooth
Make sure that the "bluez-utils" and "libopenobex1" packages are installed on your Ubuntu system.
- Open a terminal window and enter the command "sudo apt-get install bluez-utils libopemnobex1".
- The installation of the packages is completed in a few seconds.
Check the Bluetooth adapter
To check whether functional USB sticks or adapters are connected or installed at all on your PC, proceed as follows.
- Enter the command "lsusb | grep Bluetooth" in a terminal window.
- If a Bluetooth device is discovered on your PC, this information is displayed in the terminal.
- There you will find more information on the relevant device.
View Ubuntu settings
Open the settings via the gear icon in the Ubuntu menu bar.
- Click on the "Bluetooth" item.
- The Bluetooth controller on the right should be set to "On".
- The Bluetooth adapters found are also displayed here in a list.
Check drivers
Ultimately, missing drivers could also be to blame for a non-functioning Bluetooth.
- Find the appropriate driver for your Bluetooth hardware on the manufacturer's website and install the appropriate files.
- In the worst case, a certain Bluetooth dongle may not be compatible with Ubuntu.
