Ubuntu: Change computer names - how it works
You can change the computer name relatively easily in Ubuntu. We explain how to do this in this guide.
Change computer name on Ubuntu
Navigate via "Files" in the toolbar and there via "Devices" to your "hard disk".
- The files "hostname" and "hosts" are located in the "/ etc" folder. Edit the files with any editor.
- Change the entry in the file "hostname".
- In the hosts file, change the entry next to "127.0.1.1" to your new computer name. Save both files.
- Then open a terminal window and execute the following command "sudo hostname -F / etc / hostname" (without quotes).
In the next practical tip, you will learn how to hide files under Ubuntu.
