Ubuntu: These are the system requirements
If you want to install the beginner-friendly Ubuntu operating system, you must first meet the necessary system requirements. We'll tell you what these are in this article.
System requirements for Ubuntu on free-standing devices
The desktop version of Ubuntu requires a processor frequency of at least 700 MegaHertz.
- Your RAM should be 512 MB.
- The installation takes up 5 GB of your hard disk space. An interface such as USB, a CD drive or internet access is recommended.
- Ubuntu requires a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels.
- If you are not sure whether your computer has the necessary hardware or if it is worse, you can test the live version of Ubuntu on your current system. If everything works properly here, you can install Ubuntu without any problems. You can find detailed instructions in our video:
Ubuntu: System requirements for servers and netbooks
The server version of Ubuntu requires fewer hardware resources than the desktop version because it does not require a graphical user interface.
- Your device should have a 300 MegaHertz x86 processor. 192 MB are required as working memory. The installation of Ubuntu takes up around 1 GB of the hard disk space. A resolution of 640 x 480 should be possible and a CD drive should be available.
- If you want to install Ubuntu on your netbook, the requirements also differ. You need at least one Intel Atom processor with 1.6 GigaHertz and 386 MB RAM. 4 GB of hard disk space is taken up by the installation. Your monitor and graphics card should also support 1024 x 600 resolution.
