Ubuntu: The most important terminal commands at a glance
In this practical tip, we present the most important terminal commands for Ubuntu.
Basic terminal commands for Linux
- You need the "cd" command regularly. With this command you can switch to the respective working directory. For example, enter "cd desk" to switch to the desktop.
- Particularly important: If you want to start a program in the terminal, then type the program name. However, administration rights are often necessary to run certain programs. Then add "sudo" in front of the program name.
- If you need help with commands, the "man" command will help you. After the man command, name the command or program about which you need more information. The relevant manual entries will then be displayed.
- Use the "ls" command to list all files in the folder in which you are located.
- The "unlink" command deletes the files that you specify after the command.
Other commands for the Linux console
- If the PC goes on strike, it may also be necessary to shut down the computer from the terminal. To do this, enter the "shutdown" command.
- "ifconfig" informs you about your network devices and your current Internet addresses.
- Existing network connections can be found using the "netstat" command.
- Almost legendary: the "ping" command. With this command you check the accessibility of another computer in your network.
