Ubuntu: Install and update Flash Player
The Flash Player is not preinstalled by default on Ubuntu. If you want to use Flash applications in the browser, you have two options: Either you use Chrome as a browser or you install Flash manually.
Option 1: Use Flash Player with Chrome on Ubuntu
- Google’s Chrome browser comes with a built-in and functioning Flash Player.
- This is why this solution is particularly convenient: all you have to do is install Chrome on Ubuntu.
- If you don't want to use Chrome - for privacy reasons, for example - you have to manually install the Flash Player to use it with a free browser like Firefox. Read the next section.
Option 2: Install and update Flash Player on Ubuntu
- Classic Flash: Under Ubuntu you can easily install the Flash Player by entering the command "sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer" in a terminal window (Ctrl + Alt + T) and confirming with the Enter key and your password,
- New Flash in test phase: If the normal (and outdated) Flash Player version does not work properly, you can also install the new version. Since this is still in the beta phase, problems can also arise here. You install it via terminal with "sudo add-apt-repository ppa: nilarimogard / webupd8 && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install freshplayerplugin pepperflashplugin-nonfree".
