Install FTP server on Ubuntu
Ubuntu offers you an easy way to install an FTP server on your system through the official package sources. Simply do the following:
- Open a terminal by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting "Open Terminal".
- Then update your system with "sudo apt-get update" and then "sudo apt-get upgrade".
- Now you can install the very secure FTP server "vsftpd" with the command "sudo apt-get install vsftpd".
- After installation, this is available under "ftp: // YOUR IP ADDRESS".
Set up FTP server on Ubuntu
Next, you should adjust the settings of the FTP server according to your wishes. This is done via the configuration file:
- In the standard configuration, all users of your computer can log in to the server and read files.
- To edit the configuration, you must run the command "sudo gedit /etc/vsftpd.conf".
- To activate functions, you must remove the "#" sign in front of them and then save the configuration.
- Then you only have to restart the server with "sudo service vsftpd restart" and the changes in the configuration take effect.
