If Ubuntu is no longer listed under Grub, you need to fix it. This can be caused by a subsequent Windows installation or, in rare cases, by installing other Linux distributions. In this case you have to repair Grub so that you can boot into Ubuntu again. We'll show you how to do this in just a few simple steps.
Repairing grub on Ubuntu via boot repair
You can repair Grub on Ubuntu with a tool called "Boot Repair". For this you need the installation medium with which you installed Ubuntu. If you no longer have this, you can download Ubuntu here in the 32-bit or 64-bit version. If you need help installing the image, you will find all the relevant information in another article.
- Restart your computer and boot from the CD.
- Select the "Try Ubuntu" option.
- Call up a terminal and enter the following lines in it:
- sudo add-apt-repository ppa: yannubuntu / boot-repair
- sudo apt-get update
- sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair
- boat-repair
- The repair program starts with the last command. Now select "Recommended Repair", the standard option.
- Now Grub should work properly again and Ubuntu should be recognized on restart.
