If Ubuntu keeps hanging up, this can be due to various causes. In this practical tip we will tell you what you can do about it.
Linux Ubuntu hangs - you can do that against the error
- In some cases, desktop effects can cause this problem. Therefore switch these effects off under "System"> "Settings"> "Desktop Effects".
- Basically, you should make sure that your system is up to date. You can do this under "Software and Update". Look there under "Additional drivers".
- Note that you can only install drivers for graphics cards from nVidia via the terminal with the commands "sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx sudo nvidia-xconfig".
- Also make sure that your housing is free and fresh air gets into the fans.

- Take a look at your fans and check that they are working properly. In some cases, dust and dirt can obstruct the fans. If dust or dirt has settled here, you can carefully remove it by blowing gently or using cotton swabs when the PC is switched off.
- Perform a MEMTEST to check your memory for errors. When you start Ubuntu, press the [Shift] or [Esc] key until you are in the GRUB boot menu. Select "Memory test" there and confirm with [Enter].
- Often times, you can fix the problem quickly by restarting. To do this, press the key combination [Alt] + [Ctrl] + [F1] and enter "reboot" in the command line. Confirm with [Enter].
- In general, you should not store too many programs in the autostart so that the system does not hang up. To check this, go to "System"> "Settings"> "Startup Programs" and remove programs that you do not need immediately after starting.
